Market Pulse
Monday opened the week with the strongest session in weeks. The KSE-100 added 1.12% to a fresh record close of 187,455 - a fifth consecutive gain - and every headline gauge moved in step: the KSE-30 (+1.31%) led, the Shariah-compliant KMI-30 followed (+1.18%), and the All-Share added 1.08%. Breadth was firmly positive at 264 advancers to 161 decliners across a 444-name universe, and turnover reached 846m shares with up-volume beating down-volume more than two-to-one (583m vs 255m). Banks did the heavy lifting - NBP (+4.2%) and HBL (+4.0%) both traded on real size - while the cement complex (DGKC +3.1%, MLCF +2.2%) added a second engine. Unlike the narrower, heavyweight-cushioned sessions late last week, Monday's advance had participation from top to bottom.
Sector micro-analysis
Strength was broad and cyclical rather than concentrated in one corner of the market. Leather & Tanneries (+4.05%, 4 up / 1 down), Glass & Ceramics (+3.24%, 6 up / 0 down) and Sugar & Allied Industries (+3.08%, 17 up / 8 down) topped the table, with Textile Weaving (+2.49%) and Synthetic & Rayon (+2.32%) close behind. Commercial Banks (+1.78%, 16 up / 3 down) and Cement (+0.77%) supplied the turnover backbone through NBP, HBL, DGKC and MLCF. Only a handful of sectors slipped - Transport (-0.09%), Textile Spinning (-0.52%) and Modarabas (-0.61%) - and none by much, underscoring how one-directional Monday's tape was.

Foreign investors were net sellers of PKR 283m (USD 1m); local investors were net buyers of PKR 283m. breadth this positive - 264 advancers to 161 decliners - alongside up-volume beating down-volume more than two-to-one signals broad-based buying rather than a narrow bid. The heaviest turnover concentrated in TPLP (+7.7%, 67m), LOTCHEM (+4.0%, 42m) and BOP (+0.8%, 28m), while index heavyweights NBP, HBL, DGKC and MLCF all traded green on real size - a pattern consistent with local institutions and funds re-risking into the rally alongside active retail participation in the high-turnover names.
Outlook
- •A 1.12% gain with breadth and heavyweights aligned marks the strongest session in weeks and extends the index's run to a fifth straight advance and a fresh record close.
- •Bank leadership (NBP, HBL) trading on real turnover, reinforced by the cement complex (DGKC, MLCF) and broad cyclical participation across leather, glass, sugar and textiles, signals conviction rather than a narrow bid.
- •With the index at a fresh high after five straight gains, the next test is whether Tuesday brings follow-through or a pause to digest the run.
What to watch
- •Follow-through in banks (NBP, HBL) and cements (DGKC, MLCF) after Monday's leadership
- •Whether the broad breadth (264 advancers) and heavy up-volume persist into a sixth session
- •USD/PKR, SBP rate signals and the global crude tape
- •Whether local buying - NCCPL flows show locals net PKR 283m buyers as foreign investors sold - keeps offsetting foreign selling into the rest of the week
